EL vs. PL - Two paths to PV module quality inspection
EL vs. PL for PV modules: A concise comparison of daylight photoluminescence and electroluminescence for detecting microcracks, shunts, and degradation.
We, the Solarzentrum Stuttgart, have our roots in research at the University of Stuttgart. Worldwide PV inspection and EL/PL services, plus PV installation in the Stuttgart region. We support international clients with worldwide PV inspection, electroluminescence, photoluminescence and DaySy equipment, while providing PV installation in Stuttgart and the surrounding region.

Hail damage, transport damage, manufacturing or installation defects. With experience, performance measurement, thermal imaging and our patented DaySy EL process, we recognise even the smallest defects and can identify the cause.
Our expert reports document the location, type and, if possible, the cause of the recognised defects. In the event of hail damage, our reports are covered by many insurance companies.
Our DaySy EL process allows us to inspect your PV system without the need for complicated set-ups during the day. While inspecting, we create high-resolution EL images of each PV module, which provide information about the degree of damage and its cause.
Our patented DaySy process allows luminescence inspections of PV modules in their installed state in full daylight. Disassembly of the modules or complex setups and darkened containers are a matter of the past.
For electroluminescence (EL), a power source energises individual modules or entire PV strings as required and the DaySy camera generates high-resolution EL defect images. Individual modules on delivery, entire strings on acceptance, random samples or even 100% inspection are imaged quickly and efficiently.
With photoluminescence (PL) measurement, the necessary energy comes from the sun. A major advantage over EL is that no power source is required for the inspection. Our DaySy camera detects the same defects as EL, but some defect types are less pronounced.
Our experience as researchers and experts is the basis for your individualised PV system at the highest standard. Our view is always technical - ‘through engineering eyes’, so to speak - and we focus on high quality.
From the initial consultation to the installation and commissioning of the PV system, we carry out every step ourselves with passion.
We are a small, specialised team that collaborates closely on projects.

From backyard tests to PV power plants: Solarzentrum Stuttgart has successfully completed the first drone test flights for electroluminescence (EL) and photoluminescence (PL) inspection under daylight conditions – including meaningful PL results during cloudy winter weather.
After a hailstorm, microcracks in PV modules may remain unnoticed – an electroluminescence inspection makes them visible.
